William J. Nichting, 84, of Washington passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Independence Village in Peoria. He was born on July 14, 1931 in Quincy, IL the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Entrup) Nichting. He married Barbara Hedgecock at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington on February 2, 1957. She passed away on September 24, 2014 in Washington. Two brothers Albert and Robert also preceded him in death. Surviving Bill is a host of many nieces, nephews and cousins along with sisters-in-law Irma (Paul) Dumser of Lincoln, IL and Marion Nichting of Dayton, OH. Bill was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Hiram Walker for 30 years before his retirement. Bill was a member of VFW 9016 Walker Danforth Post in Washington and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington. He had many enjoyments in life including hunting and was an avid golfer who played in leagues at Pine Lakes and Quail Meadows. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 19, 2016 with Father Steve Willard officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until 10:45 am on Saturday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the VFW 9016 Walker Danforth Post in Washington.
