William J. "Bill" Gangloff, 91, of West Peoria, earned his wings on February 13, 2023, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois. He was born to Vincent J. and Margaret E. (Kelch) Gangloff on November 11, 1931, in Peoria, Illinois.

Bill graduated from Manual Training High School in 1950. While in high school, he was a member of the football team that went undefeated for the years 1949 and 1950. He was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.

Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in November 1951. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Bill returned home to marry Norma L. Stahl on June 28, 1952. He was then stationed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where son William Charles was born. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in November 1955 and returned home to Peoria. A daughter, Marysue, was born a few years later.

Bill worked at Allied Mills and later worked at Keystone Steel & Wire, retiring in 1996 after over 40 years of service. He enjoyed camping with his wife and family and instilled his love of nature to his children. Bill will be remembered for his compassion for others, quick wit and lovingly teasing his sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Norma; his children, Bill (Vickie Lambie) Gangloff of Mapleton and Marysue (Marty) Baker of West Peoria; grandson, Garrett (Brittnay) Baker; granddaughters, Stacey (Jason) Tindall and Stephanie (Robert) Gibson; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo Rhoads. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Blake Gangloff and sister, Beverly Crubaugh.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 8630 State Route 91, Peoria, Illinois 61615 or to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight, P.O. Box 5072, Peoria, Illinois 61601-5072. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
