William H. "Bill" Schweickert, 81, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 7:46 pm on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Carle Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL.
He was born on May 27, 1942 in Spring Valley, IL, the son of Paul and Marion (Weatherall) Schweickert. He was the fifth of six sons and admired all of his brothers' successes. Bill married the love of his life, Barbara Doherty on June 20, 1964 at Immaculate Conception Church in Spring Valley, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Barb of 59 years; son, William "Bill" Schweickert of Peoria, IL; daughter, Denise (Craig) Patton of Bloomington, IL; his beautiful granddaughters, Mary Kate (Logan) Wilson and Sara Patton; and brothers, Thomas Schweickert, Gerald "Ozzie" Schweickert, and Doug Schweickert. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Paula Doherty, and brothers, Paul Schweickert and Richard "Dick" Schweickert.
Bill was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1960. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and graduated from Bradley University with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for C.A. Powley and Co. in East Peoria, Farnsworth and Wylie in Bloomington, and retired from I.D.O.T. in 2005. Bill was a licensed professional engineer and land surveyor.
He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, gardening, nature, watching Chicago sports teams and women's college basketball. His favorite time was spent with his family.
He was most proud of his children and granddaughters. He loved attending his granddaughters' school activities and sporting events throughout the years. He was always cheering for his granddaughters and loved to brag about their accomplishments.
In these later years, he enjoyed reminiscing with grade school and high school friends about the "good old days." His time spent on the phone talking and laughing with family and friends brought meaning and joy to his days.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the wonderful care provided by the late Dr. Anthony Brody who saved his life in 1985 and often referred to him as his miracle patient. Special thanks to Dr. Timothy LaHood and staff, the team of physicians at Carle Health Proctor Hospital, all staff on the cardiac med-surg unit, and Chaplain Richard. Your compassionate care and kindness shown to us was most appreciated.
