William S. Burnett, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 20, 2022, with his children by his side.
He was born Friday, November 14, 1930, in Thompsonville, IL, to Wallace and Lula Burnett. He married Ruth B. Grant on January 29, 1950. She preceded him in death on Friday, August 21, 2020, after 72 years of marriage.
He is survived by his twin daughters Sharon (Jack) Nelson and Karen (Doug) Oberlander, both of Peoria, and son W. Thomas (Priscilla Wright) Burnett of Littleton, CO; and sister Darlene (Ren) Nardoni of Rogers, AR. He was a loving Papa to seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren (one deceased), and three great-great-grandchildren.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the 182nd Air National Guard for over 30 years, attaining the rank of Senior Master Sargent. He was a Master Mason for 68 years and a member of the Akin Masonic Lodge No. 749 in Thompsonville, IL. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for over 70 years, serving as Greeter and Usher for many years.
Bill was an avid Sportsman. He enjoyed years of hunting and fishing with his cherished "hunting buddies." The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Cindy Lovell for her many years of loving care and dedication to Ruth and then Bill, and to Transitions Hospice of Peoria for his recent care.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 3:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior, at Bethany Baptist Church. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Southern Illinois. Memorials made be made in his name to Bethany Baptist Church, 7422 N.
