Warren Robertson

March 30, 1942 — January 7, 2024

Warren R. Robertson, 81, of Washington, IL, since 1992, passed away at home on January 7, 2024. He formerly called Sterling, IL, Waukegan, IL: Libertyville, IL, and Bloomington, IL home.

He was born on March 30, 1942, in Steubenville, OH, to Warren J and Roberta (Murphy) Robertson.  He married Joan M. Harmon in Antioch, IL, on July 19, 1980. Leaving the reception in a Bell Jet Ranger from her parent's backyard.

Warren worked for 30 years as a long-term care LPN. His classmates at the College of Lake County awarded him the E. Tally Jacobs award as a nursing student of the year. He earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from ISU in 1988, hoping to learn LTC nursing and the toll it takes physically, emotionally, and spiritually. God had other plans. Warren believed in the art of nursing and science and brought humor and caring calmness to patients and staff.

In retirement, he became a crossing guard for the Washington Middle School at the intersection of Main and Devonshire for eight years. He was so happy to see the children, parents, FedEx drivers, and passersby, who often waved and supported him. He and his family were so grateful for the tremendous support extended by the community after a house fire in 2012. He was a lifetime member of the Henry David Thoreau Society.

Warren is survived by his wife Joan, beloved sons Christopher W. (Natasha) Robertson of San Diego, CA, and Daniel J. Robertson of Washington, IL. one grandson, William W. Robertson, one brother, Kevin (Peg) Robertson of Beach Park, IL, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service and inurnment of his remains will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, Shriner's Hospitals for Children, or the Washington Public Library. We ask that all who knew him honor him by taking the risk to smile, wave, or offer a kind word to someone they pass today. It may just make their day.

It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like the morning light, it scattered the night and made the day worth living.
