Obituary

Virginia Essig, 90, formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Winchester Nursing Center in Winchester, MA. She was born on August 22, 1925 in Bonaparte, IA, the daughter of Henry Harry and MaryAnn (Blair) Kimpling. As a young child her family moved to Washington, Illinois where she was raised with her siblings. Virginia married Robert E. Torrance in 1946 in Peoria, IL. They lived in Washington, IL until his untimely death in 1962. She remarried in 1970 to Henry W. Essig of Washington, IL until his death in 1983, after which she moved to MA. Surviving are her daughter Cinda (Gary L.) Torrance Gaumer; grandchildren Sarah T. Gaumer of Phoenix, AZ, Zachary R. (Elise Van Winkle) Gaumer of Alexandria, VA, and Addie M. (Gaumer) Owens of Boston, MA; and three great-grandchildren Kingsland B. Gaumer, Lula K. Gaumer, and Ruby E. Owens. She was preceded in death by her siblings Anna Mae (Kimpling) Zimmerman, Robert F. Kimpling, and Harry Henry "Hank" Kimpling. She was the office manager for her father's plumbing and heating business, Kimpling Home Supply, off the square in Washington, IL for many years. She then was employed by Illinois Central College. Funeral Services will be 11:00am Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Crossroads United Methodist Church, Washington, IL. Visitation will be from 10am until 10:45 at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
