Virgil B. Volk

Virgil B. Volk, 92, of Washington passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on January 21, 1926 in Minonk, IL the son of William J. and Sarah G. Merdian Volk.  He married Virginia M. Berry on July 31, 1948 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington.  She passed away on May 23, 2017.  One daughter Mary Volk, two brothers Louis and Cletus, three sisters Rita Koch, Esther Pomeranke, and Theresa Stroud also preceded him in death.

He is survived by three sons, Chuck Volk of Bradenton, FL; Don (Bobbi) Volk and Jerry (Judy) Volk both of Washington.  Also surviving are three grandchildren Zoe, Libby and Max Volk; two step grandchildren, Jim Stout and Nicki Kroeger.

Virgil was a WWII Navy Veteran. He worked for Cilco starting as a lineman in 1948 and retiring in 1987 as a Senior Claims Administrator.  Virgil was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Father John Menco Council 6707, VFW Post 9016 Walker Danforth Post and the American Legion Post 100 all in Washington. He was also a member of American Gas Association.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Fr. Stephen Willard will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:00am until 10:00am also at the church. Burial will follow his Mass at Glendale Cemetery in Washington with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Memories and condolences may be sent using www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
