Vernon Gene Wood

Vernon Gene Wood, 79, of Lowpoint, IL, passed away unexpectedly at 11:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on October 16, 1945, in Peoria, IL to Donald and Irene E. (Melz) Wood. He married Carol A. Schieber on November 25, 1967.

Surviving are his wife, Carol of Lowpoint; two sons, Frank Wood of Vancouver, Canada and Drew Wood of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; one grandson, Arlo H K Rocket Wood; and three siblings, Melvin (Glenda) Wood of Riverview, Florida, Clinton (Anavel) Wood of San Juan Del Rio, Mexico, and Sally (Rick) Lewis of Concord, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis Wood.

Vernon was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was an electrician working for IBEW Local #34.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of Ashes will be held in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL at a later date.
