WASHINGTON-Verna C. Smith, 72, of Washington passed away at 7:35pm, Saturday, December 30, 2017, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, surrounded by her family and a smile on her face as she met Jesus.

She was born on November 25, 1945 in Peoria daughter of Arthur and Edna Doty Reeb. She married Vernon C. Smith on February 6, 1965 in Washington.

Surviving are her husband, one son Waylon (Laura) Smith of Eureka; one daughter Julie (Tracy) DeVries of Washington. Also surviving are three grandchildren, one great grandson and 6 step grandchildren. Further surviving are one brother Vernon (Lois) Reeb of Tucson, AZ and one sister Marilyn (Tim) Heck of Germantown Hills, IL. Her parents and one son-in-law Don Guengerich preceded her in death.

Verna was a 1963 graduate of Low Point Washburn Highschool. She worked as an LPN at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, working in pediatrics for several years. She also volunteered at Lincoln Grade School for many years in the learning center. Member of Calvary Community Church in Washington and was active with the various youth programs.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am, Friday, January 5, 2018 at Calvary Community Church. Pastor Clayton Tinervin will officiate. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 10:45am Friday at the church. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
