Verna M. Lott (nee Martin), age 90, of Washington, Illinois, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Verna was born on March 22, 1927 in Metamora the daughter of George and Ruth Anliker Martin. She married Hugh B. Lott Jr. on July 7, 1957 in Eureka. He passed away on March 14, 1959 in Peoria from an airplane accident. She was also preceded in death by one infant granddaughter Haley in 1996 and two brothers.
Surviving are one son Hugh "Ben" (Donna) Lott of Cincinnati, OH; one grandson Harrison Lott of Chicago; three sisters, Mary Anderson of Scottsdale, AZ; Esther (Gordon) Hoffman of Peoria, IL; and Marge Honeg of Washington, IL; two brothers Bill (Norma) Martin of Eureka, IL; and Roger (Ruth) Martin of Dunlap, IL.
Verna attended Browns Business College in 1946. She worked as a secretary at Le-Tourneau in Peoria for the comptroller, and then, after raising her son, worked at Illinois Central College for 26 years before her retirement.
Verna was an avid Bridge player and was quick to arrange a game on the spur of the moment. She was very helpful to others in any way she could. Verna was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington where she was active with the church banner committee.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Dan Doty will officiate. Visitation will be one-hour prior to her service. Inurnment will follow at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka, IL. Memorials in her name may be given to Crossroads United Methodist Church or Susan G.
