Valerie Patricia Dickson

Valerie Patricia Dickson, 84, of Metamora, IL passed away at 10:17 am on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Morningside Assisted Living in Washington, IL. She was born on March 16, 1932 in Peoria, IL to Denzel Dwight and Wilberta (Hill) Barnett. She married Jack Melvin Dickson on December 30, 1949 in Omaha, NE. He passed away in 2004. Surviving are her children Steve (Jeanne) Dickson of Pekin, IL and Genevieve "Genny" (Randall) Gibbs of Metamora; daughter-in-law Donna Dickson of Columbiaville, MI; four grandchildren Leah (Andy) Bugos, Megan (Tom) Meyer, Jason Owen (Denise Boerr) Dickson, and Kyle (Kirsten Kohl) Dickson; and five great-grandchildren Payton and Gabriel Jewel, Ella Bugos, and Zoey and Alexa Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Carl Dwight Dickson, and brother Denzel "Gene" Barnett. Valerie worked at Mel's Market as a cashier and in the deli department for 10 years. She was a member of RiversEdge United Methodist Church in Spring Bay. She was also a member of the Audubon Society and Wildlife Prairie Park. She was a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and was a fabulous cook. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel in Germantown Hills. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Pets for Seniors, P.O. Box 64, Edwards, IL 61528.
