It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Troy W. Hoogerwerf, 58, of Washington, Illinois, who passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Troy was born in Morrison, Illinois, on February 15, 1968. He graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1986 and then played football at St. Ambrose University.

Troy earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Bradley University. In 1997, he married the love of his life, Valerie Kellenberger, and together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and love.

His survivors include his loving wife, Valerie Hoogerwerf; his four children, Noah, Logan, Makenna, and Kaia; his mother, Joyce Lopes; his stepmother, Cindy; his sister, Hope (Steven) Hamann; his brothers, Rob (Deb), Donovan Lopes, and Barry (Michelle); and many in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Hoogerwerf.

Troy’s greatest joy was truly spending precious moments with his family. He delighted in coaching, encouraging, and cheering on his sons in their athletic pursuits, making those years especially meaningful. His daughters held a very special place in his heart. Troy loved being an affectionate “Girl Dad,” whether it was fixing their hair, giving guidance, or being their fiercest protector. He blessed his family with many warm home-cooked meals, cherished memories, and a lifetime of steadfast love.

Troy had an extraordinary talent for making everyone feel truly welcome, valued, and loved. He would greet friends and strangers alike with a warm hug and a heartfelt conversation, making everyone feel at home. He wholeheartedly embraced his role in Valerie's large, lively family, becoming a beloved son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and dear friend. His kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit left a warm, lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Connect Church in Washington, from 4 pm to 6 pm., followed by a funeral service at 6 pm. Pastor Dave Jane will officiate. Afterward, cremation will take place, and a private burial will be held at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Washington.
