Ned T. Powell, 89, of Morton, formerly of Pekin passed away at 3:48pm, Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria. He was born on January 9, 1928 in Paducah, KY the son of Thomas and Anna Tracy Powell. He married Patricia Ann Westbrook on August 20, 1949 in Pekin. Surviving are his wife of Morton; Children Kathy (Steve) Schlappi of Morton; Terri (Dan) Randolph of Littleton, CO and Tracy (Sandy) Powell of Edmond, OK. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. His parents and one sister preceded him in death. A 1946 graduate of Pekin Community High School he entered the U.S. Navy on March 22, 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. After his discharge from the Navy he enrolled in Bradley University. He then worked for CILCO for many years retiring in 1994. After his retirement from CILCO, he was a driver for the Heyde Eye Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin where he served as a past Sunday school teacher and past deacon. Ned sang with the Pekin Barbershop Chorus, Kord Kutters Barbershop Quartet and the Sullivan Trio along with the Church Choir. He had many enjoyments in life including Golf, Hunting, Fishing, Pekin Youth Hockey but especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00am, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Brandon Wood Retirement Center, 730 West Jefferson Ave in Morton. Visitation will begin at 9:00am and continue until his time of service at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to the Hooked on Fishing.
