WASHINGTON?Thomas David Michael, 65, passed away peacefully at 2:13 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Tom was born on December 30, 1948 in Washington to Joseph and Gladys (Goodwin) Michael. He married Doris Diane "Dee" Johnson on December 10, 2010 in Galena. Dee survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Amanda (Rob) Baugous of Moline; one son, Christopher (Alicia) Michael of Colorado Springs; one step-daughter, Stacey Johnson of Mackinaw; one sister, Patricia (Larry) Curless of Pekin; two brothers, Steve (Barbara) Gresham of Pekin and James (Kathy) Gresham of Decatur and his four loving grandchildren, Charlie, Sammy, Christopher, Jr. and Ethan. Tom retired from the Peoria County Sheriff?s Department where he had worked for more than 15 years as a corrections officer. Prior to serving the Sheriff?s Department, he had worked for International Paper over 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1967-69. Tom was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan, and also cheered on the Bradley Braves and Dallas Cowboys. He loved to run and participate in 5K runs and other events. Tom enjoyed traveling when he had the chance and spoiling his dogs, Sadie and Abby. A celebration of Tom?s life will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday. Military rites will be accorded following the Thursday service by the Tazewell Military Rites Team. At Tom?s request cremation rites will be accorded following all services. Memorials for Tom may be directed to either TAPS or American Brain Tumor Association.
