Susanne Howell

It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Susanne Elizabeth Howell on September 24, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Susanne was born on July 27, 1942, to parents Gertrude and William Hausam.

She is remembered and loved by her family: her husband John O. Howell, and her three children: Deborah Kalke and her spouse Andrew Kalke, John Peterson and his spouse Sheryl Peterson, and Johnny Howell and his spouse Dana Howell; her grandchildren: Abby Birkland and her spouse Nick Birkland, Dana Peterson, Riley Marsh, Lydia Manesiotis and her spouse Dean Manesiotis, Trevor Kalke, Ryan Howell, and Brandon Howell; and her great-grand children: Eli, Theo, Olive, and Iris Birkland. She is remembered and loved by many friends who shared her love of baking, quilting, gardening, cross stitching, and antique shopping.

Susanne had a creative, kind, and generous spirit that shown through everything she created. She filled her home with color, warmth, and love. She had decorations and treats for every holiday and celebration, or sometimes just because. Her sugar cookies were the highlight of every gathering. She was bold, quick to laugh, and was always ready to try something new. She gave her whole heart to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the quintessential grandma to everyone, passing on her many creative talents with a smile, a treat, and good advice. She loved her family and friends fiercely and inspired kindness and generosity in everyone who had the good fortune to know her.

A funeral service is scheduled for noon on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Crossroads Global Methodist Church.  Pastor Megan Alamo will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10 am until her time of service.  Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.  Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.  To share a memory or send a condolence to her family, visit www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
