Sue Ellen (Leman) Zobrist, 79, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Roanoke, IL, was sent to her eternal home to live with her heavenly father on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, following a short battle with cancer.
Sue was born on September 3, 1945 in Washington, IL, to Rouland R. and Verla R. (Stiglitz) Leman. She grew up on her family's farm in Roanoke, the oldest of six children. She married Harlan C. Zobrist of Metamora on October 23, 1965 in Roanoke, IL.
Sue was a bright light to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was filled with love, compassion and a deep faith in God. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched or impacted.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harlan Zobrist; her three children, Lisa (Tim) Simpson of Waterbury Center, VT, Jeff (Shelly) Zobrist of Normal, IL, and Jason Zobrist of Washington, IL; four grandchildren, Logan (Val) Simpson, Lauren Simpson, Ashley Zobrist, and Austin (Annika) Zobrist; five great-grandchildren, Hadley, Berkeley, and Leighton Simpson and Beckham and Tatum Zobrist; three brothers, Rog (Barb) Leman of Morton, IL, Steve (Shirley) Leman of Roanoke, IL, and Curt Leman of Roanoke, IL; and two sisters, Rita (Randy) Kneezel of Germantown Hills, IL and Deb (Rick) LaVaux of Washington, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
After graduating from Roanoke High School, fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse at Methodist School of Nursing in Peoria, IL. She then continued to have a successful career that spanned across 50 years. She started at Eureka Hospital, moving onto Bromenn Home Care and Hospital and serving as the Director of Admissions at Snyder Village for the last ten years of her career.
Outside of nursing, Sue enjoyed various social activities. First and foremost spending time with family and friends, where she played an important part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also being a member of the Metamora Homemakers Association and keeping in touch with her nursing school roommates. She was affectionately known to her family and friends as the "go to" nurse for medical advice.
Most importantly, Sue was deeply devoted to her faith and trust in God. She was a dedicated and active member of Christian Union Church in Metamora for most of her adult life participating on various boards and doing volunteer work. Sue had a gift of making people smile, impacting those who had the pleasure of being in her life.
Sue's spirit will continue to grace our lives and inspire us always. May Sue's memory be a blessing to ask as we carry her memory and spirit in our hearts forever.
