Steven H. Egle

October 28, 1954 — October 27, 2022

Steven H. Egle, 67, of East Peoria, IL passed away at 10:41 am on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.

He was born on October 28, 1954, in Pontiac, IL, to Harold G. and Z. Gail (Shoemaker) Egle. He married Linda S. Seelye on May 16, 1987 in Peoria, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Linda of East Peoria; mother, Gail of Normal, IL; siblings, David (Lin) Egle of Morton, IL, Barbara (Wayne) Baker of Mattawan, MI, Robert (Sandy) Egle of Flanagan, IL, and Susan (Greg) Zavitz of Normal, IL; and many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Harold.

Steve grew up in Gridley, Illinois, graduating high school in 1972. Following graduation, he studied at Illinois Central College obtaining two degrees, in IT and Accounting. During his time at ICC, he participated in a work study with Caterpillar.  Immediately after graduation, Steve went to work for Caterpillar working there for 40 years, retiring in 2015.

Steve enjoyed a number of sports throughout high school and was active as an adult by regularly playing in both indoor and outdoor volleyball leagues. He was an avid St Louis Cardinal fan, along with his mom. He and his wife, Linda, also enjoyed Bradley basketball. Steve was very competitive in games, particularly Euchre, a family favorite.

A favorite pastime of Steve's was music. He particularly enjoyed acappella music with his family and joined the Morton Community Choir in their presentation of Handel's Messiah for a number of years. Steve would find incredible music online which he would share with his family in emails - often sent in the middle of the night, seemingly his favorite time of day. He also joined his wife's family enjoying local theatre, particularly Peoria Corn Stock Theatre and Goodfield's The Barn III.

Steve was very committed to work, and also enjoyed travel. His work at Caterpillar sent him to India and Japan. Over the years, he and Linda also traveled to Venezuela, Israel, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska.  Trips with friends skiing, canoeing in the Boundary Waters and white water rafting the Grand Canyon were favorite memories. More recently Steve joined a local Disaster Relief Team that traveled to Houston after Hurricane Katrina.

Steve was a private man, but those who knew him, knew him to be a man of integrity. A good man. He will be missed by so many, including his and Linda's dog, Abbie.

Steve became a Christian at a young age. His desire, through this celebration of his life, would be that the message of Jesus Christ and salvation through Him be at the center. God Bless you, Steve.
