Stephen Lee Howd, 69, of Washington, formerly of Germantown Hills, died peacefully at his home on August 9, 2016, after nearly a three-year battle with esophageal cancer. Steve was born in Columbus, OH, May 13, 1947 and was adopted by his parents Curtis and Dorothy Howd of Muncie, IN. He graduated from Burris High School in 1965. He started studies at Ball State University prior to joining Mthe Coast Guard. It was in the Coast Guard that Steve first worked in a dental office and laboratory. After leaving the service he pursued a degree in dental technology from Southern Illinois University. He then moved to Peoria and was employed at Dental Arts, where he met the love of his life, Billie Shull. After their marriage, they eventually moved to Germantown Hills, where they established their own dental laboratory business. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Jennifer Howd, from his first marriage. One daughter from his first marriage, Amy (Mike) Brown of Indianapolis, IN survives. He is also survived by his wife Billie Howd and their children Leah (Dan) Baik of Dallas, TX, and Curtis Howd, of Washington, IL, and brothers Dean of Macomb, Illinois, and David of Richmond, CA and their families. Steve enjoyed friends and a good book. He loved his family, dogs, cars, music, astronomy and science. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox. Steve was at one time a bicyclist, cellist, sculptor, saxophonist and ham radio operator. An independent soul, Steve was an oasis of calm in the chaotic and turbulent world. His name shines prominently on that list of good guys and will be deeply missed. Cremation rites have been accorded. A time to celebrate Steve's life will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials in his name may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Peoria Affiliate.
