Shirley Sadler, 89, of Washington, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois.
She was born on April 19, 1936, in Peoria, Illinois, to Melvin and Tina Birkett Nafziger. She married Billy R. Sadler on June 23, 1957, in Washington.
Shirley’s surviving family includes her husband, two daughters—Valerie Sadler of Washington and Victoria (Brian) Norton of Lexington, TN—and three grandchildren: Jordan (Jeana) Norton, Blake (Ansley) Norton, and Carleigh Norton. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Gray, Eleanor, Rhodes, Hunter, Troy, and Ross; one sister, Bonnie Barker of Naples, Florida; two nephews, Troy and Ruark Perkins; and a niece, Blair Doyle. Her parents and a sister, Joanne Perkins, preceded her in death.
Shirley was a registered nurse working at Proctor Hospital in Peoria from 1957 until 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washington, which later became GospeLife Church. She served on multiple church committees and committed herself as a prayer warrior within the church. She loved exploring new places with her husband, making wonderful memories together. Shirley was not only an avid reader but also a passionate animal lover who truly enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
A funeral service is set for 2 pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Justin Schwarzentraub officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial will take place afterward at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to GospeLife Church or St. Jude.
