WASHINGTON?Sherry J. Rogers, 63, of Washington, passed away at 5:20 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2013 surrounded by her family at her home following a year long battle with cancer. Sherry was born on January 24, 1950 in Charleston, South Carolina to James and Wanda (Bateholts) Thornton. She married her soul mate, Michael Rogers in Washington on March 20, 1999. Mike survives. Also surviving is her mother, Wanda Thornton of Dry Fork, Virginia; two sons, Michael (Crystal) Hieronymus of Washington and Scott (Teri) Hieronymus of Germantown Hills; one daughter, Stacy (Shawn) Rennie of Washington; one brother, Dennis (Pam) Thornton of Brimfield; two sisters, Joni Baldwin of Peoria and Jeri Thornton of Texas and 15 loving grandchildren, Nicole, Krystin, Jes, Jacob, Kassidy, Kaylee, Brennen, Michaela, Cecelia, Gavin, Natalie, Ashley, Whitney, Jake and Amanda. Sherry was preceded in death by her father and one brother, James Thornton. She had worked in housekeeping at the Moehle Supportive Living Center in Washington and had also been a local bartender for many years. Sherry loved to cook, work on crafts and shop. She could play on the computer for hours and never met a stranger. She will always be remembered as a loving, wonderful Mom and she was affectionately known as "Granny" to many in the family. She was a member of the Rock Church where she was baptized on July 29, 2012. A visitation to celebrate and remember Sherry will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. Burial of cremains will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sherry may be directed to WHIP.
