Sharron J. "Jo" Henderson, 85, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 6:25 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born on September 24, 1938, in Fithian, IL, the daughter of Clifford and Agatha Meade Thomason. She married Wayne L. Henderson in West Peoria, IL on December 21, 1958. He passed away on October 16, 1997.
Surviving are her children, Hank (Joe Hernandez) Henderson of Los Angeles, CA; Brian (Selina) Henderson of Bloomington, IL; Danita (Greg) Scheirer of Metamora, IL; and Andrea Henderson of Denver, CO. Also surviving are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Further surviving are one brother, Duane (Connie) Thomason Livermore, CA; three stepbrothers, Raymond Gorman, Perry (Deb) Beebe and Gary Beebe; Two step sisters, Marla (Ron) Carter and Sherry (David) Cole.
Known affectionately as the neighborhood mom, Jo's home was a sanctuary of love and acceptance, where friends and family were always greeted with open arms and an open heart.
Born with a spirit that danced to the rhythm of life, Jo's passion for music was evident through her love for Shania Twain, whose songs could often be heard echoing through the halls of her home. Her laughter was infectious, and her humor brought light to even the darkest days. Jo's creativity knew no bounds, from the beautiful gardens that graced her yard to the intricate details of her Michael Jordan sports card collection, a testament to her dedication as an avid Chicago Bulls and Bears fan.
The family was the cornerstone of Jo's world. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling in them the values of love and kindness she embodied. Her backyard was a place of gathering, where watching and feeding birds became a pastime and a shared experience that bonded generations.
Jo's legacy is one of unconditional love and the joy of life's simple pleasures. Her memory will be carried in all hearts, touched by her loving, funny, and creative spirit. As we say farewell to Jo, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that, through her acts of kindness, will continue to inspire us all.
While there will be no public services, Jo's family will privately celebrate her life, and her remains will be placed in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora at a later date.
