Sharon Lou (Brewer) Peterson, 86, graduated to glory in heaven at 9:25 pm Monday, July 1, 2024.
Sharon was born August 29, 1937, to Wilbur Cecil and Frances Harlene (Jennings) Brewer in Rodman, Iowa. She was raised in Peoria, one of four children. Sharon graduated from Woodruff High School in 1956 and went to Brown's Business School, where she met the love of her life, Don Peterson.
Sharon and Don married on August 14, 1958, while he was on a weekend leave from the Air Force. They set up house in New Mexico, where their first two sons were born. Don and Sharon moved back to Peoria in 1961 and soon purchased their first home at 1113 Parkside Ln. There, they had their third son. Don and Sharon moved to 105 Louis Ct. in East Peoria in 1971, where they lived until 2010. They then purchased a condominium in Washington, Illinois, where they enjoyed their retirement years more simply.
Sharon retired in 2008 as a dental assistant at the dental office at the Hopedale Medical Complex. Previously, she worked as a merchandise buyers' assistant at Bergner's and was a sales associate for Home Interiors and Gifts for many years.
Sharon came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior early in her life. She lived her entire life in partnership with Jesus along with her husband Don. Sharon was actively involved in Lay Witness Missions, Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, and in her home church. Sharon has been a lifelong servant as well as a student and teacher of God's Word. She enjoyed serving in the Methodist Hospital Service League for over 12 years.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her lifelong-loving husband Don in 2016, her sister Carol Shafer-Golden in 2009, her brother Richard Brewer in 2022, and her younger brother Terry Brewer in 1994.
Surviving Sharon are her three sons, Eric (Jill) Peterson of East Peoria; Michael (Susan) Peterson of Springfield; and Nick (Peggy) Peterson of Florida and, currently traveling the country in their RV; six grandchildren, Drew (Jade) Peterson of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Zack (Senti) Peterson of Thornton, Colorado; Evan (Kelly) Peterson of Portland, Oregon; DJ (Victoria) Peterson of Orlando, Florida; Abigail (John) Sparks of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; and Ryan Peterson who is currently serving in the United States Navy; nine great-grandchildren, Ellie Peterson, Ronan Peterson, Judah Peterson, Sadie Sparks, Malcolm Peterson, Scarlett Sparks, Kohen Peterson, Luke Peterson and Demi Peterson; a sister-in-law Karin (Jim) Gould of Creve Coeur; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sharon loved spending time with family, worshiping at Crossroads, laughing or fellowshipping with other women, socializing in Red Hat Society, playing Bunko and card games, and shopping at garage sales and the Eureka Et Cetera Thrift Shop. Most people would know Sharon by her laugh, love for life, and her deep love of family and Jesus.
The family thanks the staff at Snyder Village in Metamora for their loving care and kindness to Sharon.
Cremation has been accorded, with interment next to her husband in the columbarium at Crossroads Global Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will occur at 2 pm. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Crossroads Global Methodist Church in Washington, with friends and family visiting for an hour before the service. Sharon loved wearing fun, bright colors, so those attending are asked to wear something fun sparkly or colorful.
