Sharon Burdon Bowers

Sharon Burdon Bowers, 76, passed away at 1:20 pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee, IL. She was born in Lowpoint, IL to Dr. Stephen Malcolm and Coral Maurine (Jury) Burdon on December 23, 1938. An active and popular student, she led the cheers for the Wildcats of Lowpoint-Washburn High School. After high school, she attended the University of Illinois, majoring in Spanish and receiving a Teaching degree. While there, she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Also while there she met James Bowers, whom she married on August 6, 1960 in the Washburn Christian Church. Although they later divorced, their union produced two beloved children, Susan and Jeff. While Susan and Jeff were growing up, she and the children lived in Eureka where she was a substitute teacher and a member of the Eureka Women?s Club. Sharon enjoyed dancing, horseback riding and traveling and is remembered by all as being a nice, sweet and generous person. Sharon is survived by her children Susan Carducci of San Diego and Jeffrey (Rene) Bowers of Los Angeles; granddaughter, Megan Bowers of Texas; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dr. Stephen B. Burdon and Dr. John C. Burdon. Cremation rites were accorded. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at Linn-Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Washburn, IL on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Washburn Christian Church.
