Sandra Sue Madsen

Sandra Sue Madsen, 81, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 10:12 am on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Carle Health-Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL.

She was born on November 27, 1944, in San Francisco, CA, to Laverne and Gladys (DeVoss) Nelson. She married John E. Madsen on August 30, 1964, in Estherville, IA.

Surviving are her husband, John of Metamora; children, Michelle (Glenn) Harbin of Bloomington, IL and Dave (Muriel) Madsen of Washington, IL; grandsons, Joshua Madsen and Brandon Harbin; and brother, Dennis (the late Yuriko) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD.

Sandy worked in Special Education Transportation for seven years and nineteen years at Illinois Prairie District Public Library. She wrote articles for newspapers covering girl scouts, volunteer organizations, and school board meetings. She was involved in Girl Scouting for fifteen years and was an active member of Metamora Woman’s Club since 1980.

She was a member of Christian Union Church serving on Council, Philathea, several committees, and singing in choir and dinner theaters. She and her husband helped transport elderly to church and sang in Snyder Village Gospel Choir.

She enjoyed reading, singing, gardening, genealogy, following the Metamora Redbirds, and attending their grandsons’ activities.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Christian Union Church with Pastor Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the church and also one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Burial of Ashes will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Ringsted, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Christian Union Church, 925 West Walnut Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to Illinois Cancer Care, 8940 North Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615.
