Russell G. Sherman, 92, of Peoria passed away at 6:41pm Saturday, August 17, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on February 20, 1921 in rural Maquon, IL the son of Elmer L. and Edna B. Mathews Sherman. He married Aileen M. Adami on December 13, 1947 in Peoria. She passed away on May 3, 2006 in Peoria. His parents, one brother Dale who passed away in early childhood, and one infant grandson Jason Buchanan also preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters Sharon (Richard) Buchanan and Joanne (Karl) Hathway both of Yates City. Also surviving are two grandchildren Emily and Benjamin Hathway as well as two sisters Muriel Davis of Elmwood and Alice Sherman of Peoria. An honorably discharged US Army Veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict, retiring as a Lt. Colonel from the Army Reserves after 23 years of dedicated service. He worked for Cilco 31 year?s last working in Rates and Regulatory Affairs before retiring in 1983. Cremation Rites have been accorded with graveside services scheduled for 11am on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Yates City Cemetery with Chaplain Mary Jane West officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at the Yates City Community Center to celebrate Russell?s life. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Turning Point Ministries, Wounded Warrior Project, or OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
