Ronnie Lynn Hathcock, 75, of East Peoria peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday April 29, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 8, 1949, in Somerset Kentucky to Clifford and Thelma (Lair) Hathcock. He married Patricia Paquet in 1975.
Surviving are his children, Derek of Creve Coeur, Megan of East Peoria, Matt (Melissa) of Washington, and Ryan (Demi) of Morton, IL, grandchildren, Tyson, Blakely, Corbin, Eliza, and Payne. Also surviving are his siblings, Linda (Bobby) Curtis of Washington IL, and Gayla (Fred) Alexander of West Plains MO, along with his brother-in-law Roy (Rosie) Paquet of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
He spent his childhood immersed in sports, where he truly shone as a basketball player at Washington Community High School, achieving an impressive career-high of 44 points in a single game. Following his high school years, he pursued higher education at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he earned a bachelor's degree, laying the foundation for a bright future ahead.
His passion for sports shone brightly through his dedication to his children. Summers were spent at the ballfields, while winters found him in the gym, tirelessly coaching them and nurturing their love for the game. A die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini basketball, he wore his team colors with pride. His commitment extended beyond his family, as he dedicated many years to serving on the board of East Peoria Community Baseball, fostering a love for the sport in the community.
In addition to his love for sports, he had a profound appreciation for nature. In his later years, he found solace in the trails of Forest Park Nature Center, where he hiked over 1,000 miles, immersing himself in the beauty of the outdoors. Above all, he cherished every moment spent watching his grandchildren shine in their activities.
Cremation rites have been conducted, and his family is planning a celebration of life to be held on Friday, May, 16, 2025, at the VFW Post 9016 in Washington from 5 pm until 9 pm.
