Ronald F. Wernsman, 83, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 4:32 am on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born on February 14, 1939, in Metamora, IL, to Omer H. and Henrietta E. (True) Wernsman. He married Ina R. Covington on August 1, 1959 in Metamora.
Surviving are his wife, Ina of Metamora; sons, Eric (Sonia) Wernsman of Sumter, South Carolina and Christopher Wernsman of Metamora; grandchildren, Rachael (Joe) Quinn, Ethan Wernsman, Faith Wernsman, Clayton (Eve) Meisner, Ryan Wernsman, and Logan Wernsman; siblings, Omer (Nancy) Wernsman, Jr. of Zephyrhills, Florida, Beverly Driscoll of Metamora, Linda (Mike) Guth of Metamora, and Diane (Terry) White of Metamora; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Darren Wernsman.
Ron was a U.S. Army Veteran. He worked as a supervisor in maintenance at Caterpillar Tractor Company until his retirement. Ron was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He was everyone's handyman. Ron was a Cardinals fan and enjoyed music and playing the bass. He played on American Bandstand with the Rockin' R's band.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 9, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until time of mass, also on Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora with military rites accorded.
