Ronald "Ron" L. Call

December 28, 1941 — December 7, 2022

Ronald L. "Ron" Call, 80, of Spring Bay, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL, surrounded by his loving family. Ron had bravely fought a three year battle with ALS and was an inspiration to all he encountered.

Ron was born on December 28, 1941, in Peoria, IL, to Lester and Gladys (Brown) Call. He married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Schoonover on January 6, 1962 and they were blessed with nearly 61 years of a beautiful marriage.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda of Spring Bay; two sons, Dan (Gloria) Call of Madison, WI and Christopher (Ranae) Call of O'Fallon, IL; one sister, Linda Dodwell; three granddaughters, Jessica (Sam) Connor, Victoria (Kyle) Vossekuil, and Savana Call; one great-granddaughter, Adeline Connor; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.

Ron was employed by the Peoria Journal Star for over 40 years. He was very active in his community and church his entire life, served on the Spring Bay Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, serving as chief for three years. He served on both the Riverview and Metamora school boards for many years as well as the County Board.

Ron loved people and that love was returned to him. He smiled and laughed easily, always with a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes. He was an awesome husband, brother, dad, and grandpa who adored his grandchildren (each claiming that she was his favorite) and great-granddaughter. Many good memories were made at his home on the lake. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and telling stories. We were all so blessed to have him be a huge part of our lives and he will be remembered and missed and loved forever.

We will be forever grateful for the many caregivers who assisted Linda and gave him such loving care during his illness, especially Patty, Amber, Barbara, Frannie, and Russ.
