Ronald G. Kirkwood

Ronald G. Kirkwood age 81 of Germantown Hills, Illinois passed away on Sunday Sept. 23, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born Oct. 2, 1930 in Bloomington, Illinois to Frank and Ferne (Weldy) Kirkwood. He married Suellen Carter on Oct. 11, 1984 in Peoria, IL., and she survives. Surviving are his children, David (Rita) Kirkwood, Steven Kirkwood both of Bloomington, IL., Step son Jeff (Shanda) Carter of Peoria and step daughter Lisa Lucas of Germantown Hills. Grandchildren, Krysten, Brett, Jenna Kirkwood all of Bloomington, IL., Haley Hoover of Bloomington, IN., Erika (Joshua) Woods of Broken Bow NE., and Alexa Frazelle of Elmwood, IL.,Great Grandchildren, Tristan, Kaedon, and Zoey Woods of Broken Bow, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother Richard. Ronald was a graduate of Bluffton College in Ohio, and received his Masters degree from Ohio State University. He served 3 years with the Mennonite Central Committee and 2 years with the World Council of Churches in Europe and the Middle East. Worked several years in various school districts in Indiana and Ohio before coming to Illinois in 1967 for an opening at Illinois Central College where he taught until 2009. Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he sang in the choir and a member of Peoria World Affairs Council. Cremation rites have been accorded with a memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ronald G. Kirkwood English Scholarship at ICC, Illinois Shakespeare Festival at ISU, Peoria Bach Festival at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria, and any Animal Welfare Agency of the donors choice.
