Ronald William Flanigan

Ronald William Flanigan passed away at 2:00pm on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Morton Terrace Care Center. Ron was born May 26, 1941 in Peoria, Ill. to Robert and Maxine (Hostetter) Flanigan. He married Gloria J. (Wixson) Thurman on September 28, 1963. She survives along with step-sons Jerry and Cory and Cory's wife Cathy Gilbert. His brother Rick (Janet) Borton of Xenia, Ill. as well as Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and Step-Father Billy Borton. Grandparents William and Katherine Hostetter and Jo-Jo and Mary Pickup. Ron grew up in Peoria and graduated from Woodruff High School. He was a Navy Veteran serving from 1958-1962 on the USS Forrestal. Ron served as a fireman and Fire Chief to Germantown Hills Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 21 years retiring in 1987 from the Dept.. He worked at Pabst Brewery for 10 years until they closed then he owned and operated Germantown Electric and served on the Board of Directors 1982-1983 for NECA as well as Treasurer 1985, Vice-President 1986-1987 and NECA Chapter Director 1989-1992. He was chosen Outstanding Jaycee of Riverview-Germantown Hills Jaycees and was a founding member and President of the Chapter. He was a long-time member of East Peoria Chamber of Commerce and served as Board President during 1999. He enjoyed boating, water-skiing and participating in ski shows with the Ski-Kats Ski Club in younger days. Cremation rites have been accorded. Grave side services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11:00am at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, Ill near the front entrance. Memorials may be made to St. Jude and MDA Telethon.
