Roger A. Ruhman, 84, of Metamora, IL passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria. He was born on November 13, 1931 in St. Cloud, MN to Alfred Peter and Hildegarde (Sendzik) Ruhman. He married Louise Peters on June 7, 1958 in Catasauqua, PA. She survives. Also surviving are one son David (Lisa) Ruhman of Kansas City, MO; one daughter Elizabeth (Larry) Cunningham of Germantown Hills; seven grandchildren Kyle, Tyler, Rebbekah, Elisha, Isaiah, Naomi, and Abigail; one brother Neil (Mary) Ruhman of Duluth, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Ruth Anne, and sister Elaine Schmidt. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in Duluth, MN and received his B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. He obtained a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1958 and a Master of Theology in Pastoral Care from Princeton in 1970. He also completed a year of Clinical Training at Trenton State Hospital in Trenton, NJ. He was ordained in June, 1958 by the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., and served churches in New Florence/West Fairfield in New Florence, PA, First Presbyterian Church, New Kensington, PA, Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church, East Stroudsburg, PA, Elmwood Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, NY, and First Presbyterian Church, Quincy, IL. He also served interim pastorates in Greencastle, IN, Paris, IL, and the Christian Union Church in Metamora where he made his home after retirement in 1996. Beside serving various positions in Presbyteries and in local ministerial groups, he was secretary of his denomination's first Presbyteries Committee for the Standard Examination for Ordination preparing and grading examinations for ordination. While in New Kensington he helped establish the community's first Head Start Program. In Quincy, he was instrumental in establishing Blessing Hospital's first Ethics Committee. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 2:30 pm at Christian Union Church, Metamora with Pastors Gary Salm and Phil Sommers officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm until time of services at the church. Burial of Ashes will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Metamora. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Neebish Island Presbyterian Church, 9847 East 17 Mile Road, Barbeau, MI 49710. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
