Roger G. Lawless

Roger G. Lawless, 76, of Washington passed away at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December, 5, 2019, at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria, IL.

He was born July 18, 1943, in Gibson City, IL, son of the late Forrest and Ruby Turner Lawless. He married Joanne L. Grim on October 21, 1972, in Washington, IL.

Surviving are his wife, one son Scott Lawless and one daughter Kelley (Richard) Robison both of Washington. Also, surviving are one grandson Scotty Lawless of Morton and one brother Robert (Marlene) Rogers also of Washington.

Roger was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War, stationed in Saigon from 1965 until his honorable discharge in April 1967. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 35 years retiring in 2002. Roger was a member of the American Legion Post 983 in East Peoria and was a former member of the Pekin Moose Lodge 916. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Washington where he was actively involved with the worship team as well as many other ministries.

Roger enjoyed life to the fullest being involved with area bowling leagues, playing bass and acoustic guitar, which ultimately had an influence on his grandson Scotty, introducing him to the music community. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, dedicated father, loving husband and grandfather who had a big heart for the church family and will be missed by all that knew him.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Washington. Pastor Joshua Monda will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.until 10:45 a.m., also at the church. Memorials in his name may be given to First Baptist Church of Washington.
