Roberta E. Schmidt

Roberta E. Schmidt, 88, of Washington, Illinois, passed away at 11:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She had been a resident at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. She was born, July 1, 1927, in Morton to Fred and Bertha (Weinkoetz) Lindenberger. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Ludwig J. Schmidt, whom she married on July 22, 1951, her parents, and also the grandparents who raised her. Surviving are her children, Julia (Michael) Coffman of Metamora and Terry (Candace) Schmidt of Wildwood, Missouri, and grandsons, Neil (Leah) and Gregory (fiancAC.e Courtney Smith) Coffman, and granddaughter, Christina (Schmidt) Rohlf and husband Kurtis. Roberta was very devoted to her family. Roberta attended Brown's Business College. Throughout her life, she worked as a secretary at Caterpillar, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Batchelder Advertising, Equitable Insurance, and Central Illinois Agency on Aging. As a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peoria, Roberta sang in the church choir, served on several congregational committees, and was an officer in both the Couple's Club and the women's group. She also played piano for St. Paul's Sunday School preschoolers and avidly supported her husband who served as synod President of Lutheran Men in Mission. Besides her service to the church, Roberta and her husband were also members of the Greater Peoria Rose Society. They exhibited their roses statewide, winning many awards for their beautiful flowers. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of East Peoria Rosewood who lovingly cared for Roberta during the past three years, Dr. David C. Slagle who treated her, and also Pastor Bill, church friends and family who visited Roberta and sent her many well-wishes. Funeral services will at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peoria, with Rev. William Dohle officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
