Roberta E. Harbers

Roberta E. Harbers, 90, of Metamora, IL passed away peacefully at 1:25 p.m. on June 26, 2018, surrounded by her family.  Roberta was born on April 2, 1928 on the family farm in Metamora to Herman and Gertrude (Eichhorn) Elbert.  She married Robert F. Harbers, Jr. on August 12, 1950, at St. Mary's Church in Metamora.  He survives.

Roberta also is survived by her four children, Judy (Peter) Maksimovich, Becky Harbers, Tim (Kay) Harbers, and Heidi Harbers; seven grandchildren, Alex, Anne, Maggie (Tim Koltveit), Clare and Teresa Maksimovich, Elizabeth (Elliott) Warden, and Luke Harbers; sisters Bernice Fuchs, Doris Forney, and Joan (Willie) DeFord; brothers Allen (Sarah) Elbert and Lynn Elbert; sisters-in-law Guenn Elbert, Donna Elbert, and Juanita Schierer; brother-in-law Don (Hilda) Harbers; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her sister Rosemary Mischler and brothers Roland, Howard, and Marvin Elbert.

Roberta was a lifelong resident of Metamora and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.  She was the bookkeeper for St. Mary's Parish Credit Union for 29 years.  Roberta was appointed the first (and only) female trustee of the church and served on her parish's finance and cemetery committees for many years.  She was a member and past president of St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society, member of the Metamora Legion Auxiliary, and a Eucharistic minister for the church.   Roberta was an avid volunteer throughout her life.  She delivered dinners to the community through the senior citizens' nutrition program and was a frequent volunteer at Snyder Village through 2017.  Roberta was happiest in her home with her family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora with Father Vien Van Do officiating.  Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the church with visitation to follow from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm also at the church.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Mary's School, 415 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548, OSF Hospice, 2265 West Altorfer Drive, Peoria, IL 61615, or Snyder Village, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.  Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
