Robert J Mosbach, 87, of Washington IL. formerly of Oglesby, died SundayJuly 16, 2017 at his residence. A private family service will be held at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Robert, "Bob", was born March 20, 1930 in Oglesby to Walter and Gladys (McPhedran) Mosbach. He married Eileen Nelson on March 15, 1952 in LaSalle. He is survived by three children, Carleen Mosbach of Chicago, Roberta (Charles) Derr of Lexington, IL, and Jim (Michelle) Mosbach of Washington, IL; and two grandchildren, JT and Tyler Mosbach of Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife; his sister, Dorothy Stickney; and his brother, Walter J Mosbach.

Mr. Mosbach was a dairy and grain farmer his entire working life. He was very proud to be part of an industry that provided quality food to the world at an affordable price. His many past associations and roles within the farming community indicated his commitment to his work: President of the Farmer's Co-op of Cedar Point, L-P High School Agricultural Advisory Board, LaSalle-Peru Milk Producers Association, and Illinois award winner for High Herd Milk and Fat dairy herd. In the 1990s he had an opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. accepting an award for office excellence and performing extra duties as assigned on behalf of the ASC – Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee for LaSalle County.

Throughout his life, Mr. Mosbach demonstrated his strong passion for youth sports and education through his years of officiating, coaching, and supporting sports and education within the community. He coached and officiated grade school basketball and was an IHSA boys basketball official. He was a Co-Founder of the Oglesby Girls Softball Association and required that all girls be provided an opportunity to play every game. He was a member of the Oglesby Grade School Board of Education in the 1960s and the LaSalle Peru High School Board of Education in the 1990s.

Mr. Mosbach was a Veteran, 52 year member of the Elks, and a member of the Republican Presidential Task Force under the Reagan and Bush administrations.

In 1976, Mr. Mosbach suffered a severe stroke which temporarily prevented him from operating his farm business. His family will forever be grateful to the many neighbors and friends within the farming community that helped them sustain their farm business that difficult year. His children have been fortunate to have a loving father who instilled in them a strong work ethic and determination for doing what is right. They proudly say they will never know anyone who worked harder than their father in all that he did.

Special thanks to the staff at Morningside Senior Community, Hospice Compasses especially his nurse Michelle, and the wonderful caregivers from Home Health Plus – Angi, Gabby, Amber, and Sonja. And special thanks to his devoted friends, Don and Dottie Seaton.
