Robert Lee Mason

Robert Lee Mason, 84, of Metamora, Illinois passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora. Bob was born on July 20, 1936 to Howard Alexander and Violet Isabel (Trantina) Mason. He married Marjorie Kiesewetter on June 21, 1958 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Metamora.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marge of Metamora; daughters, Diane (Bob) Knisely of Chandler, Arizona, Jana (Steve) Mason-Barrett of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Pamela (Dave) Maxwell of Barrington, Illinois; six grandchildren, Mason (Amy) and Keegan (Amanda) Knisely, Kaleigh and Lindsay Schermer, and Tyler (Portia) and Travis Maxwell; five great-grandchildren, Dylan and Paige Knisely, Ezekiel and Aria Knisely, and Paisely Maxwell; and sister-in-law, Cloanne Mason of Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Dean Mason.

Bob graduated from Metamora Township High School in 1954. He graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration. He also played baseball and basketball with induction to the basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

He graduated from Worsham's College of Mortuary Science in 1959 and began a career in the family business, Mason Funeral Homes, during which he was an Illinois Funeral Directors Association board member. His life of service also included ambulance service and fire chief. He was elected Woodford County Coroner for 17 years. He retired from the funeral business in 1998.

Bob enjoyed golf, boating, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was a member of Christian Union Church in Metamora.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Christian Union Church with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel and also one hour prior to his service on Monday at the church. Due to COVID-19, CDC guidelines will be followed and masks are required. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.
