Robert "Bob" "Kip" Kipling, 86, of Metamora, IL passed away at 4:50 am on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Roanoke, IL. He was born on March 6, 1931 in Keokuk, IA to the late Delmar "Count" and Wilma (Thompson) Kipling. He married Dorothy Denman on July 27, 1949 in Keosauqua, IA. She passed away on April 19, 1999. Surviving are his fiancAC.e Carol DeBroek of Phelps, WI; sons Mike Kipling of Metamora, Pat (Rocky) Kipling of San Diego, CA, Joseph (Katy) Kipling of Tucson, AZ, Richard (Jo Anne) Kipling of San Diego, CA, William (Wendy) Kipling of Tucson, AZ, and David Kipling of Hermann, MO; daughters Mary Garrels of Metamora, Susan (Dave) Behrens of St. Louis, MO, and Barb (Bryan) Drum of Puyallup, WA; sixteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Anthony "Tony" Kipling in 1982, grandson James Kipling in 1976, and daughter-in-law Marcia Kipling in 2007. Bob retired from the Peoria Journal Star after 38 years. After retirement Bob loved to fish, keep cars (and anything else running), but mainly loved telling tall tails and jokes. His friends will always remember him as the guy to talk to when the mower wouldn't start, there was a noise under the hood, or the fish wouldn't bite. Even if Bob couldn't fix the mower, stop the noise, or recommend the right bait, it wouldn't matter because he would leave you smiling. At the request of Bob, cremation rites have been accorded and no services scheduled. Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Metamora Fire Department.
