Robert Charles Fandel

Robert C. Fandel, 91, of Metamora, IL passed away at 9:38 am on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on July 18, 1929 in Metamora, IL to Charles M. and Vernice F. (Fletcher) Fandel. He married Barbara L. Schiffbauer on November 2, 1958 in Tonica, IL. She passed away on February 27, 2020.

Surviving are his three sons, Ronald (Julie) Fandel and Roger (Teresa) Fandel both of Metamora, and Rodney (Lori) Fandel of Lowpoint; two granddaughters, Kayla (Ross) Spangler and Elizabeth (Chris) Keller; four grandsons, Lance (Jill) Fandel, Andrew, Drake, and Samuel Fandel; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Mallory, and Reed Spangler, Carter and Kinzley Keller, and Boyd Fandel. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Clifford Fandel and Russell Fandel.

Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a carpenter working alongside his father. Bob and Barb owned and operated Fandel's Hardware and Variety in Metamora from 1967 to 2001. He was a charter member of Christian Union Church in Metamora and a member of the American Legion Post #89 in Metamora. Bob drove a Metamora Township High School bus for over 40 years. He served as a past president of the Metamora Grade School board. He enjoyed squirrel hunting, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Christian Union Church with Pastor Gary Salm officiating. Due to COVID-19, CDC guidelines will be followed with social distancing and masks are to be worn. Bob's service will be streamed live for anyone who cannot attend in person. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora with military rites accorded.
