Robert G. Anderson Sr., 85, of Washington passed away at 6:25pm Thursday October 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born on November 12, 1925 in Centerville, IA the son of Theodore and Gladys Shanahan Anderson. He married Dorothy Fisher on June 8, 1957 in Rockford. She passed away on October 16, 2003 in Peoria. Surviving are three sons Robert G. (Lynne) Anderson Jr. of Eureka, James C. (LiuQing) Anderson, and Timothy J. (Renee) Anderson both of Washington, one daughter Lisa M. Anderson of East Peoria. Also surviving are five grandchildren and one sister Doris Whitledge of Beloit, WI. Robert was a US Navy Veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged. He then studied at Carthage College in Kenosha WI, transferring to Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO achieving his Masters Degree in History. He also studied at Bradley University in the early 1960?s. Robert began teaching in Nebraska, Rockford, IL and lastly in Washington, IL at Washington Community High School teaching U.S. and World history for 25 years before his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion Washington IL Post 100. He was also a member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Washington. Funeral Services for Robert will be 11am Monday October 24, 2011 at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church with the Pastor Dick Hanson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to his services also at the church. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Washington with Military Rites to be conducted by the Tazewell County Military Rites Team. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to St. Mark?s Lutheran Church.
