WASHINGTON...Robert D. Alexander, Sr., 91, formerly of Washington, passed away at 5:17 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria. Robert was born on September 20, 1920 in Marrowbone, Kentucky to Edgar and Annie Carden Alexander. He married Juanita Grissom in Glasgow, Kentucky on January 26, 1946. Juanita passed away on August 19, 2001 in Peoria. Among those surviving are three sons, Robert (Cheryl) Alexander of Alpharetta, Georgia, Dan (Donna) Alexander of Smithfield and Tim (Jon'l) Alexander of Mossville and four grandchildren, Jenifer, Ryan, Johnathan and Joseph. He was preceded in death by four brothers, David, Phillip, Beck and Joseph. Robert was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps in the India/Burma theatre. He was a member of Danforth Walker VFW Post 9016 in Washington. He had lived at Fondulac Woods Rehabilitation Center in East Peoria since 1990 and the family appreciates the care given to Robert. He was also a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. A memorial service for Robert will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, January 20 at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Bob DeBolt officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date. Memorials for Bob may be made to the American Red Cross or become a blood donor.
