Rigmor "Ree" Petersen

Rigmor "Ree" Petersen, 82, of Washington passed away at 10:15PM Friday, March 10, 2017, at Apostolic Christian Home-Eureka where she joyfully spent the last 8 years of her life. She was born December 14, 1934 in Copenhgen, Denmark the daughter of the late Felix and Anna Madsen Nussle. She moved to the United States in 1948, locating in Chicago after WWII and proudly became a U.S. Citizen. She met Ronald Petersen at St. Stephens Danish Lutheran Church in Chicago and married on October 15, 1960 in Chicago. He passed away on February 2, 1997. Also preceding her in death was one brother Robert Nussle and one sister Nini Nussle. Surviving are three children Heidi (Don) Krause of Fort Collins CO and their children Rowan and Amber, Steven (Pamela) Petersen of Washington, IL and their children Anna Kirsten and Eric; and Kristin (Randall) Jacobson Flex of Washington, IL and their children Derik, Joel, Emily, Jordan, Morgan, Natalie along with one great grandson Landon. Ree was an Elementary Teacher working in Chicago from 1956 until 1967. After relocating to Washington, she taught with her good friend Jackie Clary for 20 years at District 52 in Washington. They have a legacy of taking the 4th grade class camping and teaching them a loving respect of the outdoors. She was a life Long member of Girls Scouts of Denmark and Girl Scouts of America, where she held many leadership roles, where she earned her lifetime pin. Ree was a member of IRTA, Town Club Bridge Club, and Newcomers both in Washington, IL and Forest Park Nature Center in Peoria. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, IL where she was active with the Altar Guild and the Health Ministry committee. Ree also was active with the Hospice Grief Group at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria after her husband, Ron passed away. While living in Chicago, she was a member St. Stephens Danish Lutheran Church, where she was very active with several roles within the church. She had many enjoyments in life, but particularly enjoyed Danish Folk Dancing and her family. At her request, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be Thursday, March 16, 2017, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington from 5:00PM until 7:00PM. Further visitation will be held from 10:00AM until her time of service at 11:00AM on Friday March 17th. Pastor John N. Bates and Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. Private burial of her remains will be at Glendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church Health Ministry or to Apostolic Christian Home-Eureka.
