WASHINGTON?Richard E. Spring, 78, of Washington, passed away at 8:55 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Washington Christian Village. Richard was born on August 5, 1936 in Washington to Charles and Ella (Felker) Spring. He married Carol Sue Rousey in Washington on June 26, 1963. Carol survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Tyra (Tim) Adkins of Washington; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Adkins and one sister, Evelyn (Earl) Lindenfelser of Armington. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Eldora and one brother, Glen. Richard retired from Caterpillar after 38 years in 1992 as a design engineer. He was also a graduate of the Caterpillar Apprentice Program. Richard was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force and Illinois Air Guard and was actively deployed in the early ?60?s. He was a lifelong avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and loved to hunt morel mushrooms. Richard was extremely proud of his family heritage, with the Felker?s being one of the original settler?s in Holland?s Grove which later became known as Washington. He was a member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Washington where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 with Pastor John Bates and Pastor Youngshim Mason officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9 to 10:45 prior to services. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to either his church or Heart Fund.
