Richard Dale Schertz

Richard Dale Schertz, 92, of Metamora, IL, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born on May 24, 1934, in Peoria, IL, to Lloyd D. and Clara (Zehr) Schertz. He married Marilyn L. Guth on June 27, 1954, in Washburn, IL. She passed away on April 24, 2025. 

Surviving are their four sons, Rod (Jill) Schertz of Metamora, IL, Stan Schertz of Roanoke, IL, Reldon Schertz of Lowpoint, IL, and Sid (Paula) Schertz of Metamora, IL; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jean (Waldemar) Redekopp, Jay (Sandra) Schertz, and Vietta (Dave) Hartzler. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law Bobbie Schertz, and sister June Bernardi. 

Richard was a life-long farmer in the Metamora area for 74 years. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 30 years as an Inspector in Quality Control. He served faithfully at Metamora Mennonite Church for years and then at New Hope Community Church for 20 years. 

Private family graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Stewart Harmony Cemetery in Metamora with his son, Rod, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 1:45 pm before the Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Cazenovia Mennonite Church, Cazenovia, IL. His son, Pastor Rod Schertz, will officiate.
