Richard W. Goldsmith, 81, of Metamora passed away peacefully at 12:42 am on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on December 11, 1933 in Cazenovia, IL to Rayford and Felicia (Durst) Goldsmith. He is survived by his sister Loretta Wettstein of Eureka; and nieces and nephews Marcia (Gary) Hedrick of San Antonio, Texas, Mike Goldsmith of Chillicothe, Jennifer (Dan) Vonachen of Peoria, Julia (Mark) Baier of Bloomington, Janet (Norm) Ulrich of Goodfield, Jake (Mary) Wettstein, Janine (Kevin) Rocke, and Jo Ellen (Todd) Martin all of Eureka, and Jon (Rita) Wettstein of Bloomfield, Iowa. Also surviving are many great-nieces and -nephews in addition to many great-great-nieces and -nephews. Richard loved his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and ?nephews very much! He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Frank Goldsmith. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Richard went to work at Caterpillar Tractor Company right after graduating from Metamora High School, retiring after 30 years. He remained a loyal Redbirds fan the rest of his life. Richard served as a volunteer fireman for Metamora. Fishing, watching baseball, and gathering with his nieces and nephews were Richard?s favorite pastimes. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid LA Dodgers fan. He loved visiting restaurants that offered buffets. He was a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge No. 98 in Washington and attended Washington Apostolic Christian Church. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Reverend Gary Hedrick, nephew, officiating with visitation prior from 9:30 am until time of service at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Metamora with military rites by American Legion Post 89, Metamora.
