Richard C. Garber, 93, of Eureka, IL, formerly of Roanoke, IL passed away at 3:05 pm on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Maple Lawn Health Care Center in Eureka. He was born in Metamora, IL on July 26, 1923 to Rudolph and Esther (Reeser) Garber. He married Mary L. Pettigrew on July 26, 1944 in Roanoke, IL. She passed away in 2004. Surviving are his children Linda (Phil) Clark of Colleyville, TX, Ruth (Carl) Miller of Pryor, OK, and Raymond Garber of Roanoke; daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Larson of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister Fern Onken of Colfax, IL; and brother Leslie (Velda) Garber of Washington. He was preceded in death by daughter Catherine Garber, son Richard C. "Ric" Garber, Jr., great-grandson Elisha Lerwick, and sister Wilda Gingerich. Richard had a dairy farm until 1960 which he then sold. He later owned and operated Garber's Sundries in Roanoke until 1985. Richard had a love for singing and sang in many quartets and choruses throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Cazenovia Mennonite Church and the Roanoke United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:30 am at Cazenovia Mennonite Church with Reverends Dennis Kennell, Doug Hicks, and Doane Brubaker officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Hickory Point Cemetery, Metamora. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Maple Lawn Health Care Center.
