Richard "Dick" Allen Fauber of Bartonville, Illinois, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong Peoria-area resident, passed away unexpectedly on May 15, 2026, at the age of 80.
Dick was born to Elmer Perry and Edith Mae (Schertz) Fauber on March 20, 1946. He grew up on his family's farm in East Peoria and graduated from East Peoria High School in 1964. He then entered into an apprenticeship program with Caterpillar, earning multiple national pattern-making awards, before joining Johnson Hydraulic, where he was awarded multiple patents and managed the hydraulic side of the business. He later moved to O'Brien Steel where he worked as an engineer, building and repairing steel manufacturing equipment, for the remainder of his life.
Dick loved his work. He found joy in making new products and improving on existing designs. He possessed an analytical mind with a photographic memory for the smallest detail. He was an exquisite all around athlete, winning multiple awards and trophies racing motocross in Illinois and the Midwest as a young man. His love of motorsports continued in his later years via his passion for restoring vintage automobiles, including a 911 Porsche and a Ford Bronco. He was a tennis enthusiast, water skier, and snow skier. He was a natural at the driving range and batting cage, even into his late 70s when showing his grandkids how to hit a fastball.
Dick lived a full life, worked hard, and was blessed to be part of a close-knit Peoria community of family and friends for 80 years.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Edith Fauber Rentsch, grandparents Joseph and Pearl Schertz and Orville and Anna Fauber, and his sisters Barbara and Karen Fauber. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marsha Fauber; his son Ben Fauber (Laura) of Austin, TX; his stepdaughter Melissa Lourgos (Jim) of St. Charles, IL; his stepson Dana Beitz of Peoria, IL; his grandsons Beau and August Fauber and Danny Beitz, and his granddaughter Vida Beitz; his brother Ron Fauber and his sister Carol Hornickle (Nicholas); and many extended relatives and lifelong friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be one-hour prior to his service also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spring Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 1320 W. Commerce Dr., Peoria, IL 61615.
