Rebecca
Mullen
October 25, 1953 – April 28, 2026
Rebecca Ann “Becky” Mullen, 72, of Washington, Illinois, passed away on April 28, 2026, at home with her family after a battle with cancer.
She was born on October 25, 1953, in Springfield, Illinois, to James Horvath and Elizabeth J. (LaMotte) Horvath. Becky married the love of her life, Douglas E. Mullen, on April 16, 1974, in the Manti Temple in Manti, Utah, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than five decades.
Becky was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Douglas; her children: D. Christopher Mullen (Sherry) of North Salt Lake, Utah; James W. Mullen (Michelle) of Morton, Illinois; Andrew T. Mullen (Sabrina) of Washington, Illinois; Kara E. A. Maughan (Daniel) of Chatham, Illinois; and Brian J. Mullen (Bianca) of East Peoria, Illinois; her brothers, James Horvath (Debra) of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Gary Horvath of Warrensburg, Illinois; and 17 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Timothy S. Mullen.
Becky dedicated 25 years of service as a teacher’s aide with District 50 Schools, retiring in 2019. She had a lifelong commitment to serving others, especially through her faith. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Morton Ward, she served in many callings, including Primary teacher and Primary president, Stake Primary president, and in the Relief Society as both ward and stake president. Most recently, Becky and her husband served together as service missionaries.
Her service extended into the community as well. Becky helped coordinate American Red Cross blood drives with local congregations for several years and was instrumental in organizing the Peoria Community Festival of Nativities for eight years. She was also deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Committee Chairman, and District Commissioner. She received her Wood Badge beads in recognition of her advanced leadership training.
Becky found her greatest joy in her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved hosting family game nights and creating lasting memories together. Her many talents and interests included crafting, painting, scrapbooking, quilting, gardening, hiking, cooking, and baking. She enjoyed the outdoors and even went skydiving at the age of 70. She also began taking piano lessons just a few years ago, always eager to keep learning. Becky had a deep love for family history work and cherished time spent with friends, whether playing Bunco or visiting church history sites.
Above all, Becky had a strong and abiding testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and His Atonement. She shared her faith freely and felt His presence in her life, especially as she served others and worshipped in the temple.
Visitation will be held on May 3, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home, 20 Valley Forge Dr, Washington, IL 61571.
