Raymond H. Nauman, 88, of Metamora, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 10:39 pm at Unity Point Health-Methodist. Ray was born on January 9, 1926 in Benson, Illinois to George and Mary (Waldschmidt) Nauman. He married Betty J. Kerker on July 9, 1955 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Metamora. She survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Jolene (Jason) Krumwiede of Washington, Chris (Chris) Mettler of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Cindy (Dan) Poplette, Jan (Mike) Engstrom and Sandy (Jeff) Bernitt all of Metamora; nine grandchildren, Laura Schupp, Katie (Schupp) Schalk, Lindsay Mettler, Nick Bernitt, Matt Mettler, Brooke (Bernitt) Miller, Megan Bernitt, Alex Mettler and Hannah Engstrom; six great-grandchildren; and sister Theresa Harms of Minonk. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter, Robert and Eugene; and sister, Mary. Ray was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked at Caterpillar for 31 years, retiring in 1985. After his retirement he was an escort with Caterpillar for many years. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Metamora serving as an Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of American Legion Post #89, Izaak Walton League of Metamora and past American Red Cross Blood Chairman for Woodford County. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Metamora with Father Neri Greskoviak officiating. Rosary will be at 4:30 pm Friday, November 7 with visitation following from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Metamora where military rites will be accorded by his Legion Post. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Mary?s School and Emergency 116.
