Ray Matheny

Arvel Ray Matheny, 72, of Bayview Gardens passed away at 8:15 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his residence. He was born on January 3, 1943 in Carbondale, IL to Arvel T. and Clarissa E. (Tripp) Matheny. He married Deborah J. Rubel on September 30, 1978 in Spring Bay, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his daughters Amanda (Kevin Bush) Matheny of East Peoria and Emily (Tyler McIntyre) of Morton; granddaughter Josie Matheny; siblings Carroll (Shirley) Matheny of Metamora, Rosemary (LeRoy) Hodson and Janie (Dan) Giosta both of Pekin, Kay (Bud) Courtway and Howard Matheny both of East Peoria, and Linda (Rick) Davis of Lake City, AR; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Matheny, and niece Rena Courtway. Ray worked as a power trucker at Caterpillar for 35 years, retiring in March, 1999. He was a Riverview Grade School board member for 12 years and had been on the Bayview Gardens Village Board. He enjoyed horses, gardening, wildflowers, hummingbirds, fishing and spending time with family. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Chaplain Steve Drennan officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Spring Bay Cemetery.
