Phyllis V. Jackson, 97, of Metamora passed away peacefully at 6:15am on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born on December 19, 1916 in Denver, CO the daughter of late Byron and Gertrude H. Anderson Wear. She married George E. Jackson on September 6, 1941 in Las Vegas, NV. He passed away in November of 1976. Two brothers also preceded her in death. Surviving is her daughter Cynthia S. Watton of Rockford; sons Richard (Kathryn) Jackson of Thompson Falls, MT, George Lee (Mary Jane) Jackson of Metamora, IL. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A graduate of the University of Illinois, she taught school at Jack Creek School near Toulon, IL. She then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Chicago and Los Angeles and after moving to Kewanee, she later worked for the former Kewanee Washer-Corp for 31 years retiring in 1986. She was a past member of Kewanee First Presbyterian Church for 50 years, where she taught Sunday school and was an officer in the Women?s Association. She also volunteered at Kewanee Hospital and Kewanee Tutoring Center. She moved to Snyder Village in Metamora in 1998 and became a member of Christian Union Church in Metamora. Honoring her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Memorial Service will is scheduled for 11:30 am Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Christian Union Church in Metamora with Rev. Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be one-half hour prior to her service. Private burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee, IL. Memorials may be made to Christian Union Church, Snyder Village or First Presbyterian Church in Kewanee.
